About our company
With so much more in the shop than what is online, we are always worth a visit when you are passing!
We have opened the business up to the online trade with much of our stock now available online, including all the latest 00 & N Gauge models plus unique O Gauge kit and scratch-built models of high build quality.
With the shop now 'open' 24/7 and ready to serve you whenever you may need it, remember, we sell exactly the same models as everyone else out there at roughly the same price, but our carriage is FREE over £60 for UK deliveries, making us probably the cheapest overall online outlet on the High St. Why not give us a try and we'll do our upmost to provide the service you expect, at a price you can afford.
We are proud to be a small business who consider every customer to be important, giving you individual attention in the shop and advice to help you achieve your modelling objectives. Remember that by supporting the small local Model Shop you keep it alive on the High St. This can only be good for the consumer!
Our bricks-and-mortar shop is open 6 days a week, 11am - 5pm from Monday to Saturday and we look forward to welcoming you to the shop.
Click on our Home Page to see all the exciting products that we have to offer, in both new and second hand condition, from all the major manufacturers. As well as the current range items, we also list all of the pre-release items from Bachmann, Graham Farish and Hornby to enable you to ensure that you get the model you want at the price you want to pay.
We are also very social at Tennents Trains too! We have a Twitter account (@tennentstrains) and a Facebook account where you can find out the latest news of new product arrivals and other interesting items such as our in-shop layout images, hopefully giving you inspiration to try something for yourself. Follow us, we would truly appreciate it!
My name is Peter Wright and my passion for model railways started as a child, like most people, upon receipt of a train set one Christmas. My layout grew and then got flooded and sadly the locos and rolling stock were consigned to boxes where they stayed for many years.
Recently my interest was reawakened and I found Tennents Trains in Halesowen whilst out walking the dog. I soon became a customer and my layout began to take shape once again. I then discovered that John Tennent was intending to close the shop due to his retirement plans, so I decided to step in and keep the business open.
John Tennent had been selling trains for the best part of 50 years, firstly from his Pharmacy Shop in the centre of Halesowen and then from the current premises for the last twenty years or so. However, John decided that he wanted to retire from the day-to-day running of the business but was also just as keen for it to continue in the same manner. We decided that we, too, wanted the same thing and set up the our business to do just that.
The unique character of the shop is focused on providing the unusual items that are vital for scratch-builders as well as providing the mainstream proprietary ready-to-run products from all the leading manufacturers in all of the popular gauges from N to G, in British, Continental and American outline.
We strongly believe that by supporting the small local model shop when buying the big things, you are directly helping to make sure that we are still there when you are looking for the little things too! Not just because we are a small model shop but, sadly, there are too many of the smaller model shops closing their doors for good and that is not good news for the customer as reduced competition will see high street prices rise in the long-term.
We have introduced the strapline above to highlight to potential customers the vast scope of products that we have in stock. As those of you who have already visited the shop will know, as well as all the latest models, the shop is packed with lots of little things that have been forgotten by most of the larger model shops and represent the essence of the kind of shop that we are.
We have a little bit of something for everyone. Whether it is transfers, loco firebox doors, wheels, chimneys, old or new, big or little or countless other things, there is always a chance that you will find what you are looking in the shop so if you don't see it online then call the shop and ask.
Since taking over the reigns we have managed to retain all of the very knowledgeable and helpful volunteer staff, who have continued to offer their help and advice to anyone who needs it whether you are a beginner or a fellow seasoned modeller. Without the volunteer staff the shop would not be able to operate and if you would like to volunteer some of your time, then please contact Andrea on 0121 550 1266 or call in to the shop for a chat.
So whatever it is that you may be looking for you stand a good chance of finding it in the shop, or something else that you didn't expect to find whilst looking!
