We are a long established Model Railway Shop in Halesowen, West Midlands with excellent connections to M5 Jct.3 & 4.
All the above would not be possible without the enormous support of the volunteers who help to keep the shop running! We thank them very much.
This is a Hornby R3607 The 15 Guinea Special - 1T57 The Final Tour of British Rail Steam. The 1T57 'Fifteen Guinea Special' was the last main-line passenger train to be hauled by steam locomotive power on British Rail which took place on 11 August 1968, the day before the introduction of a steam ban on BR. The tour commenced its commemorative journey in Liverpool before travelling to Carlisle via Manchester and back. The tour was pulled by four different locomotives in total and in this pack the steam power is presented by Oliver Cromwell, the last steam locomotive overhauled by BR.
Oliver Cromwell first entered traffic in 1951 and spent the first 12 years of service in East Anglia before finally moving to the north-west as dieselisation took place in 1963. The loco was withdrawn from service at Carnforth in 1968. The final journey for the locomotive took it back to Norwich, the shed where it all began, and it was then towed to Diss and finally Bressingham.
In this pack, Oliver Cromwell is joined by a BR Mk.1 Brake Second Open Coach E9223 in BR Maroon and a pair of BR Mk.1 Tourist Second Open Coaches, M4995 and M4933, both in BR Blue & Grey livery.
