This DVD contains cine film with authentic soundtracks and an excellent commentary from John Tennent throughout, along with still photographs in both B&W and colour from the Severn Valley line and the Halesowen and Harbourne branch lines. All film was taken in the 1960's shortly before the lines were closed.

Running time 1 hour.

The Severn Valley Lines

We take a journey along the Severn Valley in 1961, firstly from Kidderminster to Bewdley and then via Stourport to Hartlebury. The film then takes us back north to Bewdley and then along the now preserved Severn Valley line to Bridgnorth, taking in the old ferry services at Arley and Hampton Loade. We then travel on to Ironbridge and Shrewsbury along the section of line that closed in 1964.

The Harborne & Halesowen Branches

We join a trip on a DMU organised by the University of Birmingham Railway and Inland Waterways Society from Old Hill to Longbridge via Halesowen on a line that was closed in 1964. We then take a look at the Harborne branch and the Mitchells & Butlers' Brewery Railway in 1962. We then join the Stevenson Locomotive Society on a tour of the Harborne & Halesowen branches on 3rd November 1963. We then get a look at the last days of freight traffic on the Halesowen branch, featuring rare cine film footage and original soundtrack, followed by scenes of the demolition of the line including Dowery Dell Viaduct.

A real time journey of 14 minutes from Severn Hall, near Bridgnorth, to Coalport station along the remains of the track bed of the Severn Valley line.

Three unique sound recordings made in January 1963 of freight trains climbing from Harborne to Hagley Road summit.

May I please take this opportunity of thanking you for sharing your priceless films with myself and other railway enthusiasts. Unfortunately, I was born too late to visit these lines when they were in use, and now little remains. Thank goodness for the Severn Valley Railway and your amazing archive. You must have a wealth of wonderful memories of travel on these long lost routes. I had thought that 'The Land of Lost Content' could never be equalled, but how wrong I was. Your latest dvd 'Bygone Days' is just as amazing. An essential aid to understanding what it was like at the end of these railways, and how the landscape has changed since their demise. Anyway thanks again for the pleasures of your productions and very best wishes to you.
